but also as the evocation of two bodies pressed snugly up against one another when placed side by side

then negative space for the other

There is some wear to the lacquer around the rims on the top and bottom of the box

I would guess it dates to mid- to late 20th c

And it is oversized, making it feel all the more a special object. I'd probably use it on my desk to hold a pile of clippings or drawings together, or it would certainly make for a very elegant way to seal a big bag of potato chips! 7" long x 5 8" wide x 1 2" deep and in excellent condition, with just very light wear. I'd guess it dates to the very early 20th century.
