I'd guess 1930s or so but am not 100% certain

and to me the look on his face suggests he is contemplating his next move

and sense of being just on the cusp of fully coming into himself

I must say I'm a bit baffled to find it on the back of a piece of paper with typed address that appears to be postmarked 1945 it looks decidedly 19th century to me, and the paper does too. I'd really guess the drawing came first, and was repurposed, but I can't
